“It
was four days of festivities, fun and fashion. Tens of designers, more than 500
brands, 600 models and thousands of attendees participated in the latest instalment of
Indonesia Fashion Week that ended yesterday.
Attendees at the event (there were
long lines of them) were pampered with a wide choice of fashion shows scheduled
throughout the week. Not only that, they also had to fight the overwhelming
temptation to shop and splurge at the hundreds of booths scattered in the huge
halls of Jakarta Convention Center. From urban clogs to avant-garde batiks –
you name it, there they were.
The shows for Muslim- and
modest-wear were on Friday, February 15. A parade of designers and labels
joined force to showcase a heady variety of chic and creative covered styles: Shafira,
Anne Rufaidah, Ida
Royani, Irna Mutiara,
Dian Pelangi, Ria
Miranda, Jenahara, Tuti Adib and
many others.
Romantic dresses in flowing fabrics
were the theme of Shafira’s and Ria
Miranda’s presentations. Meanwhile, a number of other designers took pride in
their national heritage by incorporating Indonesia’s indigenous fabrics into
their collections. On the other hand, Jeny Tjahyawati
stood out from the crowd with her boheme-mood
designs that hijab fashion model Ashfi Qamara
praised as ‘mindblowing, eyepopping luxe’.
A young and talented Swedish
designer, Camilla Wellton,
also participated in the ‘Modest Luxe’
show on February 15. Her collection is notable for its choice of organic
textiles and a simple yet uniquely urban aesthetic.
The four-day fashion movement
closed with a collaborative show involving Indonesian veteran designer Poppy Darsono,
husband-and-wife fashion force Sebastian Gunawan and
Christina Panarese, and
Brazil’s design talent Samuel Cirnansck. It
was a finale to behold, one that epitomised
Indonesia Fashion Week as it truly is: a collage of creativity that connects
worlds and talents.
