Upcoming Fashion Week 2015 Update!

It’s been a pretty exciting past few weeks, with the run-up to two premier fashion weeks in the city: the Bazaar Fashion Fashion Festival and Jakarta Fashion Week. When we were planning out our schedules for the next few months, we noticed how things looked a little bit tight and hectic — mostly because these two style behemoths are only set one week part from each other this year! If you love this editorial team at all, just know that we appreciate deliveries of vitamins, supplements, and sugary goods to keep our stamina and sanity in check during the upcoming weeks.

So at the press conference for Jakarta Fashion Week 2015, we learned that the festivities will be taking place between November 1 – 7 at the same spot outside Senayan City where the Fashion Tent will be erected; but as usual, the Senayan City Atrium will be see shows that are open to the public as well. We saw some familiar faces in the form of The Body Shop and L’Oreal Professionnel, who will be taking care of all makeup and hairstyling needs this year, but there was one new face: this year’s banking partner is Permata Bank.

Sebagai bentuk perayaan 10 tahun hadirnya SK-II di Indonesia, SK-II mengajak Sebastian Gunawan menelusuri sejarah dan perkembangan teknologi SK-II secara langsung di negara asalnya, Jepang. Wujud kolaborasinya ini pun tertuang langsung dalam 30 gaun cantik dan elegan dalam pergelaran yang diadakan di Hotel Dharmawangsa tanggal 27 Maret 2014 lalu.

2014 merupakan tahun penting dan milestone untuk SK-II Indonesia, karena pada tahun ini. SK-II genap 10 tahun hadir di Indonesia. Dan selama itu pulalah SK-II telah menjadi bagian dari perubahan kecantikan wanita Indonesia, dengan bahan alami uniknya, Pitera yang terdapat dalam semua produknya.

Menandai satu dekade keberadaannya di Indonesia, SK-II bersama Susan Bachtiar dan Sebastian Gunawan melakukan perjalanan ke Jepang, ke negara asal brand ini untuk menemukan inspirasi luar biasa yang akan dibagi kepada pengguna setia SK-II dan wanita Indonesia. Di sela-sela syuting persiapan keberangkatannya, saya berkesempatan untuk berbincang dengan Susan Bachtiar di butik Sebastian Gunawan, mengenai perjalanan yang disebut SK-II Miracle Journey ini dan pencapaiannya bersama SK-II.

SK-II menggandeng desainer Indonesia, Sebastian Gunawan, untuk kolaborasi terbarunya. Berbekal perjalanan tim SK-II yang terdiri dari Susan Bachtiar (Brand Ambassador SK-II Indonesia), Ria Lirungan (Editor-in-Chief Harper’s Bazaar Indonesia), dan Sebastian Gunawan sendiri, yang melakukan perjalanan ke Jepang beberapa bulan lalu untuk menyaksikan rahasia di balik Clear Crystal Beauty, yaitu mengetahui pembuatan Pitera dan bagaimana Pitera ditemukan.

Sudah 10 tahun SK-II hadir di Indonesia, dan untuk merayakan tahun ke-1o-nya ini, SK-II, bekerja sama dengan Sebastian Gunawan dan Harper’s Bazaar, akan mengadakan fashion show bulan depan. Pada event ini, Sebastian Gunawan akan menampilkan koleksi terbaru dari lini pertamanya, Sebastian Gunawan, tepatnya pada tanggal 27 Maret 2013. Koleksi ini mengambil inspirasi dari Clear Crystal Beauty yang bisa didapatkan dari rangkaian produk SK-II.

Sebastian Gunawan has a distinctive quality as a couturier: he is remarkably close with his clientele. Gunawan is able to deliver traditional craftsmanship with the high society demands of the Indonesian customer.

He introduces a breath of freshness into any insipid, predictable social function. By some stroke of inspiration, the collection he presented tonight referenced cocktail dresses with much playful razzle dazzle. Maybe all it took was the sparkle in every silver lining that resonated through the whole collection, producing a Great Gatsby convention of sorts.

The grand fashion show from Sebastian Gunawan marked the pre-launch of his prime 2014 collection under one glorious theme: MODMUSE. A muse plays an important role in helping  materialize a fashion designer’s creativity and imagination. There have been timeless muses across time, with figures in pop culture and fashion history emerging and evolving to finally become ever-present icons standing in for respective eras. They held great sway over the fashion world with their signature style persona.

In the mainstream, muses refer to those whose strong character and originality gave them a persona that withstood the decay of time. To Sebastian Gunawan and his lifetime partner, Cristina Panarese, today’s muses are found within modern women who are open-mind to contemporary lifestyles and keen on fast-flowing information, acknowledging trends and being the muse of their own surroundings.

What is West and what is East, designer Biyan Wanaatmadja once asked.

""Everybody has different strengths and sensitivity. Why is it that Western designers can create something Asian but not vice versa? We all wear the same kind of clothes daily,"" he said.

Therefore, if the latest collection of designer Sebastian Gunawan accentuates a Spanish and Bohemian spirit rather than batik, for example, why not? At least local customers can pursue clothes with such style that is more affordable than Dior's, for instance.
